Ottosen DiNolfo Attorneys to Participate in the 78th Annual IAFPD Conference

The Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts will host their annual conference on June 23-25, 2022 at the I-Hotel Conference Center in Champaign, Illinois. Presentations by our firm on Saturday, June 25^th will include the following:

Essential Trustee Training – Part 3 
Presenter:  Shawn Flaherty             8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Part 3 of the Essential Trustee Training Program will focus on personnel and human resource matters in the fire protection district.  Both career and non-career department settings will be discussed as well as applicable federal and state labor and employment laws. Hiring, promotion, and discipline procedures will be discussed in the context of both career and non-career operations. Shawn Flaherty of the Ottosen Law firm will be presenting this program. This class does not earn Continuing Education credits.

Mock Board Meeting
Presenter:  Tom Gilbert                 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

This program will present a mock board of trustees meeting conducted by 3 slightly over the hill fire district attorneys (Tom Gilbert, John Brady, and Jim Sinclair) utilizing all of the mistakes that they have observed over the years in conjunction with board meetings.  Come have fun and watch what happens when these three guys get started!

Legal Update
Presenter:  Jim Wargo                   10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

This annual program will be a comprehensive review court decisions of interest to fire protection districts, including Open Meeting Act and Freedom of Information Act decisions of Federal and Illinois state courts and binding opinions issued by the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Counselor.
